Notes:
On the
9-male connector, Ground pins 3 and 4 are most important.
The others (1, 6, 9,
shield) are a good idea but not mandatory.
Some software may
require that pins 1, 4, 6, and 8 be tied together on the RS232,
9-pin female connector.
